Abstract
Despite the high prevalence of child sexual offences and the increasing amount of child sexual abuse material, there is a global shortage of causerelated preventive measures. The webbased app Troubled Desire aims to address this shortage by providing selfassessments and selfmanagement training modules in nine languages so far (German, English, French, Hindi, Marathi, Portuguese, Spanish, Russian and Turkish) for individuals with a sexual interest in prepubescent and early pubescent children (i.e. those with a pedophile and hebephile sexual interest, respectively). Within the first 30 months (from 25 October 2017 to 25 April 2020), 4161 users completed the selfassessment. User accesses were mainly from Germany (54.7 %) and the USA (11.4 %). About 80 % of the users reported a sexual interest in children, which was significantly more often accompanied by psychological problems than in a teleiophile comparison group (i.e. with a responsiveness to the adult body schema). Furthermore, in this comparison, child sexual offences and consumption of child sexual abuse material were also sig nificantly more common among users with pedophilic sexual preference. Most of the reported offences were unknown to the legal authorities. The usage behavior of the app Troubled Desire shows that it can reach an important target group for the causerelated prevention of sexual traumatisation of children and adolescents: individuals with a sexual responsiveness to the prepubescent andor early pubescent body schema. However, further research is needed to explore the preventive effectiveness of the Troubled Desire app in more detail.
