Abstract
In the context of sexuality as a pedagogical topic in university teaching, the text addresses the professionalization of sexuality education in initial, more advanced and continuing education. It differentiates between key terms, describes the relevant fields of activity and subject areas of sexuality education in university teaching, and outlines current controversies. This is followed by reflections on sexuality as an important and at the same time sensitive pedagogical topic, and by suggestions for strengthening and further developing the professionalization of sexuality education. In particular, the discussion of the concept of competence, reflections on (critical) professionalization and the summary of current debates can serve as a basis for reflection in other professions as well as for sexuality research.
