Abstract
Sexual problems are not naturally the subject of psychotherapeutic treatment. While sexuality was originally central to the understanding of the etiology of psychological disorders, today there are said to be psychoanalyses in which sexuality is not discussed at all. Patients, on the other hand, have a need to talk about sex and assume that there is room for this. However, hardly anyone will talk about it without being asked, both in a partnership and with the therapist. Reasons for this taboo may also lie on the part of the therapist, for example in insecurity, shame, but also in fear of transgressing. Speechlessness can also be caused by a lack of mutually appropriate language – for naming organs, practices, fantasies, desires, unfulfilled longings, but also for traumatic experiences. Wordlessness can therefore be a major obstacle, especially in connection with pronounced feelings of shame. There is undoubtedly a need to deal more consciously with sexuality and sexuality in psychotherapy. In order to overcome speechlessness, there is also a responsibility on the part of the therapist. A more intensive occupation with sexual medicine can deepen the competence for a consensual and collaborative ability to speak about sexual matters. A corresponding concept for basic sexual medicine courses is presented.
