Abstract
This article examines manifest and latent excitement motives in men who use pornography with transgender actresses as maturbation material. It first describes the genre of transfeminine pornography and recapitulates the hypothetical motives for its use: gynandromorphophilia, excitement at the new/special, latent homosexuality, banished castration anxiety, contempt for women, pleasurable subversion of male role requirements. Subsequently, the author uses depth-hermeneutics to interpret two interviews on the meaning of masturbation with young men who use transfeminine pornography. The cases provide insight into how heterogeneous the individual cathexis of transfeminine pornography can be. In the first case, the transwoman or her penis could be reconstructed as an externalized and sexualized part of the self. In the second case, the consumption of transfeminine pornography is found to be motivated, among other things, by a conflict-laden homosexual desire. These explorative case studies can only serve as a prelude to a deeper and more comprehensive investigation into the uses of transfeminine pornography.
