Abstract

Sexual Health Advising (SHA) is an important interface in the field of sexual health. It supports patients in both clinical and non-clinical settings by providing psychosocial counselling and education on sexual health as well as referral to medical or therapeutic services. This not only complements the healthcare landscape in Germany, but also allows for confidential conversations that are not subject to the time pressure of a medical consultation. Based on the evaluation results of the WIR – Walk In Ruhr, Centre for Sexual Health and Medicine in Bochum, which are based on a data collection between 2017 and 2019, as well as the findings from the United Kingdom (UK), where SHA is already established in the healthcare system (NHS), curricular training contents are outlined that are geared towards the German healthcare system. The aim is to create a corresponding job profile and to define quality standards in the training and further education of specialists.
